Program Coordinator

The State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) is designed to educate, counsel and empower Michigan's older adults and individuals with disabilities, and those who serve them, so they can make informed health benefit decisions.

The SHIP Program Coordinator will help with recruiting and oversight of SHIP Volunteers.  The SHIP Program Coordinator is responsible for outreach and community presentations.  The right candidate should be used to working with a diverse population. 



  • Works with Regional Coordinator to achieve SHIP's mission.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Regional Coordinator and the SHIP Team  Members at the local site.
  • Assists in the recruitment of potential Volunteer Team Members to ensure that s/he understands the responsibilities of the position and is willing to make the necessary commitment.
  • Provides new SHIP Team Members with an Orientation to SHIP and the local site.
  • Assists the Regional Coordinator in organizing initial trainings
  • Assists with monthly update trainings for SHIP Team Members at the local site
  • Provides technical assistance for casework including oversight of the work of the SHIP Team Members within the site, and is available to assist in problem identification, research and resolution.
  • Assists with annual assessment of the SHIP Team Members at the site.
  • Assists with exit interviews with SHIP members who leave the program.
  • Assists Regional Coordinator with outreach and program  publicity.
  • When counseling Medicare beneficiaries, adheres  to the same responsibilities and guidelines outlines in the SHIP Counselor Job Description.
  • Oversees Team Member compliance with SHIP reporting standards including confidentiality and timeliness
  • Ensures that SHIP Team Members document and accurately report their SHIP activities using the appropriate forms and on-line reporting programs
  • Oversees the provision of client satisfaction survey materials, at the request of SHIP Inc.
  • Attends semiannual SHIP Statewide Coordinators Trainings, the SHIP Annual Team Member Recognition, and other SHIP activities as required.
  • Forwards program communication and information to the SHIP Team  Members at the Site, in a timely manner.
  • Handles other duties as assigned.

Local travel outside of the office - up to 25%
